How to Inflate and Deflate Your Inflatable Paddle Board

How to Inflate and Deflate Your Inflatable Paddle Board

Congratulations on your new Newell Inflatable Paddle Board!

We’re here to guide you through the basics: inflating and deflating your board. If this is your first inflatable SUP, there are a few key things to know before you get started.

Follow our simple guide to get on the water quickly and easily.

Inflating Your Paddle Board

It typically takes less than 10 minutes to unload and inflate your iSUP. For convenience, it’s best to inflate your paddleboard after you arrive at your destination, as Newell iSUP boards are much easier to transport in their carry backpack. While you could choose to place it on a rack or in your truck, we recommend using the Newell Travel Bag for optimal ease of transport.

Follow these Seven Simple Steps to Inflate Your Board in Minutes

Step 1:

Remove your iSUP and accessories from the bag. Unroll the board completely on a smooth surface free of rocks and other loose debris; grass works well for this purpose. Unscrew the valve cap. Important: Before you start inflating, ensure that the valve pin is in the upright position. This will keep the valve seal closed and prevent air from leaking when you remove the pump hose.

Step 2:

Insert the pump hose into the valve and twist it counterclockwise to secure it. Attach the other end of the hose to the “Out” port on the pump. If you’re using an electric pump, set it to stop at 12 PSI. Note that the PSI gauge will not register until you reach at least 7 PSI.

Step 3:

Once you reach 9-10 PSI, remove the black cap from the hand pump. This will make it easier to inflate the remaining 2-5 PSI, as removing the cap converts the pump from dual action to single action.

Step 4:

Continue pumping until your board reaches 12-15 PSI. Ensure it reaches at least 12 PSI for optimal performance.

Step 5:

Carefully twist off the pump’s hose and replace the valve cap on your board.

Step 6:

Install the center fin at the back of your paddleboard, and now you’re ready to paddle!

Deflating Your Paddle Board

Deflating your paddleboard is simple and easy.

Do not use the valve wrench for deflation under any circumstances, as it can cause serious injury.

Step 1:

Before deflating, rinse your board with fresh water and dry it thoroughly. To deflate, remove the valve cap, press down on the valve pin, and twist it to lock it in the open position. A large rush of air will escape from the board—don’t be alarmed, this is normal!

Step 2:

Once most of the air has been released, begin rolling the board from the nose to the tail, with the fin box on the outside. Rolling from nose to tail helps expel any remaining air more effectively. Use the included strap to keep the board tightly rolled.

Step 3:

Place your rolled-up board, paddle, fin, pump, and leash into your Newell Travel Bag. That’s it! You’re all set to head home!
